Prostate Biopsy Option with 3D MRI/Ultrasound Fusion Technology
The latest technology available in the detection and management of prostate cancer is Targeted MRI/Ultrasound Fusion biopsy, and MR Fusion Services of Oklahoma is proud to offer this new standard of care.
In the past, the main challenge was finding the exact location of cancer in a prostate gland. The standard TRUS prostate biopsy techniques are also called “blind” biopsies because physicians cannot easily see the precise location of abnormal tissue. With the Artemis 3D imaging and navigation system, doctors can accurately biopsy any suspicious areas.
The MRI/Ultrasound Fusion (or MR/US Fusion) targeted biopsy procedure begins with pre-exam MRI prostate images. The images are then fused with real-time ultrasound images to create a detailed 3D high-definition map of the prostate. The map makes it possible for the physician to target visible lesions during the biopsy accurately.
Men who have elevated and/or rising prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels are typically referred for this procedure as well as those with a clinical concern for prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men following skin cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Statistically, one man in seven will receive a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Fortunately, there is a 5-year survival rate of 90% with early detection.
MR Fusion Services of Oklahoma’s introduction of the MRI/Ultrasound Fusion Prostate biopsy system is the latest breakthrough option in providing patients with improved diagnosis and accuracy in the detection and treatment of prostate cancer.
